ART DOCENT PROGRAM
Art Program is fully funded by PTSA Donations. What this means is that all lessons, instruction, and supplies are provided by the Peter Kirk community through the generous volunteers and donations made to the PTSA. If you have donated, thank you for contributing to our awesome program! If you would like to donate, click here.
Last year’s stats:
* 100+ volunteers
* 4800+ kid-hours in creating art
* 4200+ total pieces of art
* ~600 total pieces of glazed ceramics
* 1200+ pieces in the Gallery Walk
* <$17 per student

* understanding TERMINOLOGY
The foundation of the way we talk about art consists of SEVEN ELEMENTS.

* Value
* Texture
* Space
* Form
WHAT OUR DOCENTS DO
LESSONS
The Art Program is allowed 6 art lessons plus 1 STEM lesson.
• 4 of the 6 art lessons based on the Elements of Art or the Principles of Art. These are what you will be teaching.
• 2 of the 6 art lessons are reserved for Clay-Building and -Glazing.
LESSON PLANS & RECIPES
We offer a large collection of art recipes and lessons that many of our docents have shared. You can always create your own, but you’re more than welcome to beg, borrow, and “steal” from our library, as well. Be sure to check out our Dropbox.
CLAY
CLAY BUILDING
• Docents, docent helpers and parent volunteers assist with the Clay-Making lesson.
CLAY GLAZING
• Docents, docent helpers and parent volunteers lead the Clay-Glazing lesson.
GALLERY WALK
This year’s Gallery Walk is Saturday, May 4, 2024. It is a co-event with the School Play.
Our Gallery Walk is a beautiful exhibition of the student body’s artistic work. Docents and volunteers transform the school into a wonderfully curated museum of masterpieces created by our young artists.
