Last week our students started making strides to run 26.2 miles during lunch recesses.  Our Eagles are running, walking, skipping and hopping their way around a designated loop in front of the school.  We are tracking their miles and celebrating when they complete each mile. Please help us cheer our students on to 26.2!

A few reminders for your student:

1. HAVE FUN! It is not about finishing first, but rather having fun, setting a goal and accomplishing it.  We want to remind our students to stay on the course (no cutting the corners) and listen to instruction when it is time to stop. 

2. STAY SAFE! Students get excited and we love that!  However, please remind your students to watch where they are running/walking, stay to the side if they need a break to make room for those running through and to keep their hands to themselves.

3. REMIND THEM THEY ARE DOING AWESOME! We are so impressed with everyone who has participated.  We have seen hard work, determination and lots of laughter so far.  Whether they run 1 lap or finish a marathon, these students should be proud of themselves for getting out there and running!

VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED.  We're looking for volunteers Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays until May 31 to help track miles. There are multiple time slots of just 45 min. increments.  It is a great way for family members to get involved.  All you have to do is sign-up for the lap tracker app on your phone, hit start and scan as our students complete each lap.  The app will track all student progress as they run to 26.2 miles!  Questions, email us at marathon@peterkirkptsa.org. • 2,047 - Total miles run as a school

• 13,562 -Total laps run as a school

• 2nd - The grade that has run the most miles so far

• 12.6 - The most miles run by one student

• 507 - The number of students who have run 1 lap or more out of 594 students

There's a dedicated volunteer behind the scenes of many of our exciting events, and he's more elusive than you might think! Joe Dobner has been our amazing eagle mascot throughout this year and even on several occasions over the last 5 years. His enthusiasm shines through that costume, and he happily rearranges his schedule to make sure our mascot is there to energize the kids. Joe's great interactions with everyone always add an extra layer of fun.  And the best part? The kids still haven't figured out who he is! (Shhh…don't tell them!)

During Soar into Spring week, Joe was in over 330 photos with students, parents, younger siblings, and staff. That's a staggering number of smiles he helped create! We are even more grateful for Joe's commitment – he even used his own sewing kit to repair the costume to keep our mascot looking sharp!

We are so excited to welcome in our new Eagles to Kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year. 

Registration is OPEN! 

Once you’ve registered, you and your incoming Eagle will be eligible to participate in our Kindergarten playdates over the summer, sponsored by the Peter Kirk PTSA. We will have 5 that will take place at Peter Kirk Elementary.  The first is April 27, 10-12 pm. Come as you are and siblings are welcome! Our Peter Kirk Elementary community-building begins early on, before school even begins for our young ones. For next year's incoming kindergarteners, weh have a new private, grade specific Facebook group called Peter Kirk Class of 2037 as well as multiple playdates planned to connect with other incoming kindergarten families.

Peter Kirk will be hosting Pizza and Popsicles and Story and Art at Peter Kirk Elementary where families can come and register in-person. Look for information from school with those dates. Registering as early as possible ensures we have the right number of resources and teachers ready to hit the ground running for yet another amazing year.
