There are so many opportunities for our students to make AMAZING ART here at Peter Kirk Elementary! This is just one of the many things that makes Peter Kirk such a wonderful place to learn. Our school offers a wide array of LWSD Art instruction as well as many PTSA Sponsored Programs.

Deep Space Sparkle

This is an art program run by the LWSD. It is a teacher-lead series of lessons for all of the classes at Peter Kirk Elementary. Teachers use a web based art curriculum called Deep Space Sparkle and lead the class through a variety of fun and creative art projects. More information about Deep Space Sparkle can be found at https://www.deepspacesparkle.com

Art Docent Program

This program is a Parent Volunteer-based art program sponsored by our school’s PTSA and run in partnership with the LWSD. Parent volunteers teach a series of art lessons to their child's class throughout the school year. For more information and to find out how to volunteer, visit Art Docent Program.

The Clay Docent Program

Peter Kirk Elementary has its own kiln and clay program. The PTSA sponsors Clay Teachers to teach one clay project to each class. Students build and glaze their projects and Parent Volunteers fire them in the Peter Kirk kiln. Instruction, clay, glaze and supplies are provided by the PTSA. Parent Volunteers sign up at the beginning of the year and are trained in working with the clay, glazing, ordering supplies and running the kiln.

If you would like to volunteer to Assist in the Clay Docent program, contact the Director of Art on the PTSA Board.

Reflections Contest

The Reflections Art Contest is a National PTA program. Students take a given theme and produce an art reflection of that theme. The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works. Young artists get involved through their local PTA or PTSA. A student may submit an entry in any of six arts areas. For more details, visit Reflections Art Contest.

Artist in Residence Program

Kirkland and the Seattle area are home to so many creative Professional Artists. The Artist in Residence Program brings in Professional Artists from our local community to teach art to our students. The goal is for the students to meet professional working artists, to be able to learn about life as a working artist and for them to learn about some of the methods and media that are not covered as deeply by the Deep Space Sparkle and Art Docent Programs. Instruction and supplies are sponsored by the PTSA.

STEAM

We are currently working with outside vendors to bring in PTSA Sponsored STEAM classes that introduce our students innovative learning that not only teaches the fundamentals of science and technology but also art and design. We are working to show students how important art and design are in Science and Innovation, and how innovation and invention rely on creativity.
