No experience required! In fact, almost all the kids that start playing ball hockey with us have never played before. Through exciting games & challenges and friendly scrimmages, players develop confidence, coordination, and teamwork skills. In this creative and hands-on architecture class, students will design a "Twittering Garden"—a bird-friendly habitat that blends nature with human-made spaces. Students will design habitats for birds—such as bird feeders, towers, baths, and islands—where birds can tweet, nest, and thrive in nature. Students will also design playful spaces for children—inviting activities like hide-and-seek and drawing in the sand. As a final project, students will design bird theatres set within waterscapes—complete with walkways and seating areas around water elements, where people can relax, watch the birds, and enjoy their chirping symphony.
Through these exercises, students engage in hands-on building while being introduced to the fundamentals of architectural design—exploring the elements of point, line, plane, and volume. This studio also nurtures empathy in young learners as they explore the needs and emotions of both humans and non-humans.
