The Peter Kirk PTSA is excited to provide engaging after school activities located right at Kirk as soon as the school day ends! We partner with local organizations as well as Peter Kirk parents to offer opportunities for students to explore various arts, languages, STEM, sports, and more through these programs. If you have questions about the after school programs or are interested in running a parent-led class, please don't hesitate to reach out to the Kirk PTSA enrichment chairs: afterschool@PeterKirkPTSA.org.

Learn Japanese through food, song, games, art and lots of repetition! Konnichiwa! Hello, I am Ayumi. After graduating from the Faculty of Education at Wakayama University Japan, I worked as a teacher at a public elementary school. (Japanese teaching license for elementary, junior high and high school.) As a lifelong learner, I have a diploma of tea ceremony and enjoy wearing Kimono. I am very happy to promote Japanese culture and language to children. I am a mother of three, born and raised in Japan and came to the US with my family in 2018. I am also a member of the Peter Kirk PTSA with one kid (currently) at PK.

CreArt: Draw. Dream. Design. An Anime Art Journey: Grades K-5, $224

Big color, big imagination, big PNW vibes! This Winter kids dive into real materials—paint, clay, collage, printmaking, and textiles—while creating geometric animals, clay trolls, spooky charcoal houses, Rainier yarn paintings, comics, kinetic silhouettes, fauvist cityscapes, and bold portrait prints. We learn Northwest design principles respectfully (kids create original personal symbols), and focus on process over perfection so artists build confidence and joy. Spots fill fast—save your seat for a winter of messes, masterpieces, and memories!

Cheer and Pom: Grades 2-5

Cheer and Pom is a perfect combination of dancing and chanting, designed to ignite the spirit of cheerleading and pom dancing. Throughout the class, dancers will learn how to pump up a crowd with high-energy routines. Students will also have the opportunity to use pom poms to enhance their routines and add an extra element of excitement and flair! Our instructor will guide students through a variety of high-energy routines, teaching them the essential techniques of jumps, kicks, arm motions, and formations. In addition to mastering the physical aspects of cheer and pom, students will also learn valuable life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship, as well as the importance of being a team player! At the end of the session, students will have the opportunity to perform a choreographed dance routine for their friends and family!

Ball Hockey: Grades K-5

No ice. No skating. Ball hockey is similar to ice hockey, but players wear tennis shoes and play on a hard surface using a ball instead of a puck. It is a super-fun, fast-paced, team-oriented sport that emphasizes strategy, speed, and agility. Your student will have a blast!

No experience required! In fact, almost all the kids that start playing ball hockey with us have never played before. Through exciting games & challenges and friendly scrimmages, players develop confidence, coordination, and teamwork skills. Our experienced coaches will guide them every step of the way, starting with basic hockey fundamentals like stickhandling, passing, shooting, and positioning. We will make sure they learn the game of hockey the right way, in a supportive and fun environment.

Every student goes home with our McVander Hockey t-shirt and wristband.

Architecture: Grades 2-5, $320

This PlayArchy class invites young students to design a playful landscape through three interconnected projects: an Observatory Tower for seeing, Intersecting Gardens for growing, and a Game Table for playing. Each project opens a new way of thinking through space. An elevated platform with roof-like geometric volumes of cones, pyramids, and cylinders encourages observation through play; intersecting gardens invite children to engage with the earth through gardening and drawing in the sand, exploring patterns, connections, and a sense of care for the environment; and a modular game table fosters social interaction, problem-solving, and collaborative play, showing how shared surfaces can bring people together in meaningful and playful ways. Through this collective landscape of vision, care, and play, students discover that architecture is not just about building structures, but about creating relationships between people, nature, and discovery.

Filmmaking: Grades 2-5, $229

B&B Training Solutions’ Filmmaking Program gives students a fun, hands-on introduction to the world of film. Instructors guide kids through the full creative process—story ideation, scriptwriting, storyboarding, camera basics, framing, lighting, sound, acting, and beginner editing—using kid-friendly equipment and workflows. Along the way, students practice collaboration, communication, and problem-solving, and every child contributes meaningfully to a team-produced short film. No experience required; all equipment is provided.
