PTSA Eagles Marathon

Jump to this year's updates

The PTSA Eagles Marathon takes place during lunch recesses Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. All students K-5 as well as teachers, staff and parents are invited to participate!

How It Works:

During lunch recess on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, students can run, skip, or hop around the marathon loop, working toward a 26.2-mile marathon goal—or just enjoying a healthy, active break with friends.  The goal of the Eagles Marathon is to encourage students to be active, lead a healthy lifestyle and have fun!  As a side benefit, Peter Kirk teachers tell us the kids are more focused and better able to learn after they’ve run!

Some changes for this year:
  • we’re keeping the momentum going! Instead of stopping for finisher tunnels, runners can enjoy their full recess of movement and fun.
  • we’re celebrating every finisher! All students who complete the full 26.2 miles will be entered into a raffle to win a prize pack!
  • we’re staying hydrated and keeping our yard clean! Runners are encouraged to bring their own labeled water bottles to fuel their fun and keep the energy going!
  • we're encouraging teamwork! Every class will have a mileage goal and classes who reach this goal will earn a class reward!

Rewards and Recognition:

Each mile earns students a colorful toe token for their necklace, and those who complete a full marathon will have their photo taken (on June 10) and will receive a certificate. Finishers will also be entered into the raffle for finisher prize packs. Students receive the necklaces with toe tokens after the completion of the marathon program in June.

We Need Your Help!

Parent volunteers are needed daily to help scan lap cards as students complete each lap. This is a fantastic volunteer opportunity for parents who are able to break away occasionally from the workplace during lunchtime. Sign up to volunteer today!

FAQs:

What if my child is absent on June 10 but their class hit their goal?

They will unfortunately miss the class photo but they will still get the prize later.

Can I track my child’s progress?

Yes! Email marathon@peterkirkptsa.org to be assigned a lap tracker ID to specifically track your child(ren)'s progress.

Are you still tracking marathon completion?

Yes but we’re keeping the momentum going! Instead of stopping for finisher tunnels, runners can enjoy their full recess of movement and fun. Finisher photos can be taken on Fridays or June 10. Families are welcome to come to take photos on Fridays or June 10.

How long does the marathon program last?
The program runs for 7 weeks, spanning 26 running days. This design allows students to average about 1 mile per day to complete a full marathon.

Are finisher photos being taken, and for what distances? Finisher photos are taken each Friday and on the last day of the marathon, June 10. On Fridays, only full marathon finishers (26.2 miles) can take photos with the specific marathon sign. However, on June 10, we will have signs available for a wider range of distances (including 5K, 10K, half marathon, 50 miles, 75 miles, 52.4 miles, etc.) so all finishers can capture their accomplishment. Families are welcome to come and take photos on these days.

The volunteer slots are full. Can I still come?
We can always use more volunteers! Just be sure to sign in at the office with your ID each time you arrive.

Will 3rd Grade students who have swim on June 10 still get class goal photos?
Photos for 3rd graders with swim will be taken during lunch recess on Friday June 6 to avoid a conflict with swim.

Do I have to be a runner to volunteer?
No, absolutely not! Volunteers assist by scanning badges, monitoring track corners, or taking finisher photos. You will not be running with the kids, although you are welcome to run a few laps with your child if you wish.

Do I need the app to volunteer?
No. You can monitor a corner or take photos if you do not have the app. But the app is Student Lap Tracker and easy to download even if you are already at the school.

When do kids get foot charm necklaces?

A few days after the marathon is complete.

Last, but certainly not least, THANK YOU to all the volunteers who helped make the marathon such a huge success this year!
