PTSA Eagles Marathon event

The PTSA Eagles Marathon event  takes place during lunch recesses Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. All students K-5 as well as teachers, staff and parents are invited to participate!

How It Works:

All students have the opportunity to run, skip, hop, just move around the designated track during lunch recess as they work to achieve a marathon goal! Students can commit to accumulating 26.2 miles or simply run and track their miles as a healthy, educational and fun experience with classmates.  The goal of the Eagles Marathon is to encourage students to be active, lead a healthy lifestyle and have fun!  As a side benefit, Peter Kirk teachers tell us the kids are more focused and better able to learn after they’ve run!

Rewards and Recognition:

For each mile completed, students receive a toe token. Students receive the necklaces with toe tokens after the completion of the marathon. Upon completion of the full marathon, each finisher gets their picture taken and the first boy & girl to finish in each grade get a special prize.

We Need Your Help!

Parent volunteers are needed daily to help punch lap cards as students complete each lap. This is a fantastic volunteer opportunity for parents who are able to break away occasionally from the workplace during lunchtime. Sign up to volunteer HERE!

2024 Details

When: April 15-May 31 each Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday

Where: Lunch recesses

Reminders:

  1. HAVE FUN!  Talk to your student about running for fun and there is success running 1 lap or a full marathon!
  2. K/1 GOALS - Due to a shortened K/1 lunch recess, our goal for these grades will be a half marathon. If you have a first grader, let them know they can still try to get to a marathon, but the goal for these younger grades will be a half marathon.
  3. RUNNING CARDS - These are to STAY AT SCHOOL in your student’s cubby. Please remind your student that these cards will not come home with them and to keep them at school in their cubby. If a student forgets their card, we will NOT be able to track laps for them that day, but they are always welcome to run for fun.
  4. LOST CARDS - If a student loses their card, they will need to tell their teacher who will reach out to your classroom representative to have a new one printed.
  5. WATER - Please encourage your student to bring out their water bottle to recess. We will not have paper cups available this year.
  6. FINISHING - Each classroom has a representative that will update parents/teachers when students are close to finishing.
