ART DOCENTS AT PETER KIRK:
BRINGING CREATIVITY INTO THE CLASSROOM
Peter Kirk's Art Docent Program brings hands-on art into every classroom through lessons led by parent and community volunteers.
No artistic background or teaching experience is required! We provide training, resources, supplies and support to help every student feel comfortable leading a lesson.
What do art docents do?
Art docents work with their classroom teacher to schedule and lead art lessons during the school day. Each classroom may receive up to six PTSA art sessions during the school year:
- 4 visual art lessons
- 1 clay-building lesson
- 1 clay-glazing lesson
Docents can lead lessons individually or work together as a team.

Docents have access to lesson ideas and resources that can be used as-is or adapted for their classroom. You're also welcome to find or create your own age-appropriate projects.

We'll help you get started
New to art? New to teaching? No problem.
All art docents receive training at the beginning of the year, including how the program works, where to find supplies and lesson resources, and tips for successfully leading art in the classroom. Throughout the year, the Art Docent Committee is also available to answer questions and help with lesson planning, materials and anything else you need.

Art docents are recruited through individual classrooms at the beginning of the year.
